Location/Directions: This show will be held at the Mt. Scott Community Center, at 5530 SE 72nd Ave, Portland OR 97206. There will be plenty of parking early in the AM when we arrive – but later in the day it will fill up! For those coming later in the day to look around, there is always plenty of street parking on 72nd, you may just have to walk a block or two.
Directions: From north of Portland: Take 205 South from I-5. Once on 205, take exit 17 for Foster Road. Keep right at the fork, follow signs for Foster Rd Westbound and merge onto SE Foster Rd. Turn left at SE Harold St, then another left onto 72nd.

Entry Deadline: Entries must be received by Friday, February 1st, 2009. Late entries will be accepted with a late fee, as space allows. If you enter late, please include the late fee - I don't like having to "police" my fellow hobbyists over these things! Please email me if you would like to enter the show after the deadline – I am bringing extra tables into the center, so I need to know how many people are coming to order tables. I am also only accepting a limited number of entries due to the size of the hall, so get your entries in early! Last year sold out! Also, any entry that I get on or before 1/1/2009 will be entered into a drawing to win something very special – to be announced! Last year there were only six entries for the earlybird drawing - don't miss out on a shot to win something really neat!
Eligibility: This show is open to anyone to enter, no memberships required. A judge who customized a model shall not judge that model in any class. The same rule goes for performance – a tackmaker shall not judge any piece of tack they made. Judges shall not compete in divisions they are judging, and show management will also not compete.
Divisions: We offer nine divisions: OF Performance (All Sizes), CM Performance (All Sizes), OF China/Resin Mini, OF China/Resin (Non-Mini), CM Glaze China (Non Mini), CM Glaze China Mini, CM Mini, AR Mini, and OF Plastic Mini. Any factory painted plastic, resin, or china model of any size may show in OF Performance. A “Mini” model will be defined as any model roughly Breyer Little Bit size or smaller. This includes Stone Chips and Pebbles, Breyer Stablemates, and any similar resins or customs. The CM Mini division is for CM Plastic or cold painted China/bisque minis only – an Artist’s Resin mini that has been customized from it’s original release state shall still show in the AR Mini Division. Cold Painted China/Bisque horses show in CM Mini – CM Glazed Chinas have their own division. To clarify the questions that I am sure will come – Yes, the only traditional sized HALTER classes are for chinas, either OF or CM Glaze. As Hearts N Horses grows, I will probably dabble each year in adding new divisions! Foals should show in the foal breed class they fit into best, and they are welcome in one color class. All nine divisions will start at 8:30 in the morning and run until they are finished. I learned my lesson from last year – for 2009, we have the show hall until 8:00 PM!
MECAA Classes: With the success of the MECAA classes we did last year, Hearts N Horses will again be offering one MECAA Arena for exhibitors. Last year we did Tack & Accessories, but this year I decided to change it up – the arena offered will be Décor. As defined on the MECAA website, the Décor arena is: For miniatures that are to be used in a home-decor sense. Medallions, tiles, bas-reliefs, etc. Judging in this Arena will focus on artistic depiction of equines and related subjects, as well as quality of workmanship. The basic idea is that an entry being judged with the MECAA system will get a written critique by the judge and a percentage based on points scored in several areas. A score of 90% or more will qualify the entry for the MECAA Convention Show. The entries in each class will get a written scorecard, as well as be placed from 1st through 10th. For the Décor Arena, the classlist is as follows:
1)
Resin Medallion - Realistic Finishwork
2)
Resin Medallion – Fantasy Finishwork
3)
China Medallion – Realistic Finishwork
4)
China Medallion – Fantasy Finishwork
5)
Busts
6)
Tiles
7)
Pins/Pendants
8)
Other Decor
There are three divisions within the “Decor” arena. They are Novice, Amateur, and Open. These classes will be running at the same time as the rest of the show, and will begin at the same time in the morning as the rest of the divisions.
Judges: OF and CM Perf. – Jennifer Buxton, Colorado – English and Harness Events
OF and CM Perf. – Jennifer Bontrager, Washington – Western Events
OF and CM Perf. – Erin Corbett, Oregon – Costume and Other Events
AR Mini Halter – Melanie Miller, Washington
OF Mini Halter – Amy Peck, Washington
CM Mini Halter – Tracy Eilers, Oregon
OF and CM Glaze China – Teresa Buzzell, Colorado
Classes/Limits: Classes may be combined or split at the judge’s discretion. In Halter, each model may compete in one breed class and one color class ONLY. There are no class or entry limits – however, keep in mind that you will have a finite amount of table space, and that all seven divisions will be running concurrently. Don’t bring more than you can manage!
Leg Tags/Horse List: Each entrant will be assigned an exhibitor identification code – you must provide an email address with your entry to have the code sent to you, or you may get your code the day of the show. Alternatively, please indicate on your entry form if you are a member of the Region 1 tag saver program. Make a list of your models and number them sequentially. Your horse list MUST be numbered sequentially - if it is not, it will be returned to you to re-do. Results are hard enough to complete in a timely manner without me having to hunt for numbers out of order! Additionally, if you do not provide a horse list the day of the show, you have one week to submit it to me after the show. Results will be submitted on time, regardless of missing horse lists. If you do not submit your horse list in time to be on the results, any NAN cards won will be invalid. Mark your tags with your code, model number, and your model’s breed. Provide the show holder with the list of models, either via email, hard copy mailed with your entry, or hard copy turned in at the show or emailed within one week after.
Awards: -Color Printed Ribbons 1st-6th place
-Custom Rosettes to Champions and Reserves
-CM Trophy Western Saddle Set, OF and CM judge-off, pictures will be available
-Unpainted SM Resin TBA to Overall Champion AR Mini
-CM SM TBA to Overall Champion CM Mini
-OF Themed gift to Overall Champion OF Mini
Results: Results will be emailed to entrants after the show, but please also keep track of your own placings the day of the show just in case! I will email all entrants the final draft of the results one week before they are submitted to NAMHSA. They will be an excel file, so you may go through them and search for errors if you wish.
NAMHSA™ Member Show (Pending): 1st and 2nd place models in all divisions will receive tickets and qualify to participate at the North American Nationals (NAN) in 2009 and 2010.
Courtesy/General Rules: As always, look but please do not touch other’s models without asking permission! If you have small children present, it is imperative that they are monitored at all times. Please try to stay positive! If you do not agree with a judge’s decision, please refrain from negative remarks while at the show. Remember, it’s just one opinion on one day! One negative nancy can bring down the mood for everybody, and we’re here to have fun! Additionally, all of the judges welcome questions about the placings throughout the day. They just request that you ask about a class as soon as possible after it is over – memory can fade throughout the day, and you will get the most detailed answer if you ask immediately!
Auction/Raffle/Donations: There will NOT be an auction of any kind held at the show. I will be holding benefit auctions online prior to the show. If you are interested in donating to the auction or raffle items, feel free to email me! All donations with a minimum 50% donation to the show will receive advertising space in the show program, up to one full page, and my everlasting gratitude.
Selling/Trading/Tables: You may use your table space to sell anything you wish (…as long as it’s legal in the lower 48), and extra tables can be rented for $10. I do need to know at least 14 days before the show if you would like an extra table so that I can make arrangements – no extra tables will be available the day of the show. With your paid entry, each entrant gets either half or one full 6’ table and 2 chairs – depending on how many divisions you have entered. See the entry form for full details. You will need to bring a table covering. Tables will be assigned, so let me know if you would like to be placed near a friend or three!
Lunch: We will break at 12:00 for lunch, regardless of where we are on the classlist. There will be no classes running at lunch, whatever was set up to be judged at 12:00 can stay until we resume at 12:45. We will break for 45 restful minutes without any activities that don’t involve eating. There will not be any lunch arrangements provided by the show, but we are ten blocks from SE 82nd – you can find any restaurant your heart desires right down the road.
Accommodations: There are several hotels close to the show hall. Let me know if you would like a recommendation about where to stay.
Thank you very much for your interest in my show! Please don’t hesitate to email me if you have any questions about anything listed here, or if you would like to donate to the show.
See you soon!
