4-13-2009:  It's time to make a page for my NAN donation.  This is the first year I've been asked, and I'm so flattered to be a part of the auction.  I'm just hoping I can make something up to the standards of the other amazing tackmakers that have been a part of it!

I went around and around with what to do for the auction.  At first I thought I'd go with a very flashy tooled western show set, which would be fun.  But then I made a parade set a couple of months ago - it was FUN!  Yeah, much more real estate to tool, but the end result was worth it.  After talking with the auction coordinator and finding out that nobody else was going to do a parade set (don't want to step on any toes!), I decided to go with it.

I've been working on it in between other projects for a while now, thinking about what tooling design to do.  I've had a really hard time picking something - I really try to do something new on every set so I don't get boxed into the same old routine.  I ended up going with a very "springey" theme - flowers and bumblebees!  There will be a ton of studs (I even have bright gold ones to make 'yellow' stripes on the bees, as well as painting on the flowers.  It will be a very bright and cheery set when done, and tooling it has been a blast so far!  Here's a peek at one of the finished pieces.

4-24-2009:  Well, after looking at the previous design for a few days, I decided to change up the design!  It's still very springy and floral, just minus the bumble bees.  :-)  The shot on the left is obviously a HUGE blow-up so the tooling shows!
NAN 2009 Donation: Parade Set
5-18-2009: Time for another update!  Much has happened on the set since I last updated, I would say it's about 70% done.  I am stuck on how to finish the decorations...  to paint the flowers or not, specifically!  I have started a poll over at Model Horse Blab, so if you are a member there I would love if you would mosey on over and vote.  Otherwise, contact me at erin.corbett at gmail.com and let me know what you think!
To the left here is an example of what the flowers could look like painted.  Of course the corner silver is not on yet, but you get the general idea!
Below here are pictures of what the whole set looks like as of earlier tonight.  Since these were taken, I've added some coffee colored studs to the centers of the poppy flowers, just to add a bit more texture.  I'm always very worried about making my tack look busy and cluttered, so I'm very torn about adding more painted detailing!  The second picture is really dark, the top one is a lot more true to what the leather color actually is.
